Our APRIL meeting will be the 3rd.  We will start at 7 pm with our meal.  Please let Si know if you are attending so he can order enough chicken.  This will be a busy and important meeting, so please try to attend. We have much to cover on all the events that will be happening in the next few months.

 TOPICS;

Reunionwill be June 9thin Macon and we need to get a count of those who plan on attending.

Magazines – there will be a brief comment on this subject.

Calendar make notes!!!– see below.

Drill – this is very important, as we will be presenting the colors at our Confederate Memorial Day ceremony and need to assign roles and practice our formation.  We will also practice loading and firing to enhance our precision.

Flags– Eddie will distribute the flags we will be placing on the veteran’s graves. 

 

CALENDAR;

April 3rd– our meeting

April 7th– 1 pm, Stone Mountain function.  We will meet at the church and plan on leaving by 11:30am. Wear your uniforms and bring your muskets and leathers.

April 21st-10am Confederate Memorial Day ceremony, at the Douglasville City Cemetery.  We need to meet at the cemetery by 8am to set up and make assignments.  Please try to attend, as we need all the soldiers in uniform we can get to honor these veterans with musket shots and then the 21 gun salute.

April 21st– 2pm Confederate Memorial Day ceremony, in Villa Rica.  We will have lunch at Hudson’s after our ceremony and then will proceed to Hill Crest Cemetery in Villa Rica to assist in their service.

April 28th– 2pm Confederate Memorial Day ceremony, in Carrollton.  Exact time and location still has to be confirmed with McDaniel-Curtis Camp commander.

April 28th– 6:30 pm Confederate Memorial Day ceremony in Newnan.  This is a very impressive candle light service held in the big city cemetery on Bullsboro.  Depending on the length and location of the Carrollton service, we may leave from there to participate in the Newnan service. 

 

PLANNING PURPOSES;

May 1st– 7pm meeting

May 4th– 10 am meet at the church to load the float for the yard sale on the 5th.

May 5th– 7am, meet at the Masonic Lodge in Lithia Springs to set up and conduct the yard sale.

May 19th– HOBO supper.  We will plan and coordinate this at the May 1stmeeting.

May 27th– Memorial Day Honor Guard/Presentation of Colors at the Villa Rica American Legion Post.  We will plan and coordinate this at the May 1stmeeting.

May 28th– Memorial Day Honor Guard/Presentation of Colors at the Sunrise Cemetery Service on Hwy 78.  We will plan and coordinate this at the May 1stmeeting.

 

WAY OUT DATES:

June 5th– 7pm meeting to plan the 4thof July parade.

July 4th– Douglasville 4thof July parade.

 

Please start getting items together for the yard sale.  We had a very successful sale last year. It will be in conjunction with the Lithia Springs Battle Hill Masonic Lodge.  We need to be there and set up by 7:00 am.

 

Our HOBO Supper will be May 19th.  It will be open to the public beginning at 5:00 pm.  Our speaker, Mr. Gould Hagler, will begin his talk on the First Battle of Manassas Entitled “July 21, 1861: Armies Unprepared for Battle.” At 7:00 pm.  Our menu will be pinto beans, cole slaw, cornbread, cupcakes and a drink.  We need volunteers to prepare the beans and other foods as well as to help serve. Please invite all your family and friends.  Mr. Hagler will have some of his books titled “Georgia’s Confederate Monuments” available for purchase



  Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans 

    To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate Soldier’s   good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations.
